Dr Hoh graduated with Bachelor of Medicine (BM) from Southampton Medical School, UK in 1988 winning 2 prizes at the medical school namely, the Tenovus Oncology Prizeand and Sutton Prize for Surgery. He was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London (FRCOphth) in 1992 and subsequently Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (FRCS). He obtained a Doctorate degree in Medicine (DMed) at Bristol University with a doctorate thesis entitled ‘Biochemistry of Keratoconus’ in 1999.
His training in Ophthalmology began at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and later at Bristol Eye Hospital (1991 to 1997) where he was appointed Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the latter institution for 2 years prior to his return to Malaysia in 1997 as Associate Professor in Ophthalmology at University Malaya. During his tenure at University Malaya, he was also elected as the President of the Ophthalmological Society of the Malaysian Medical Association for 2 terms (1999-2001) and served as a visiting lecturer to the National University of Singapore.
He has over 50 international research publications in various international journals such as Ophthalmology, Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery and British Journal of Ophthalmology. Other notable publications include a chapter in a textbook ‘Laser and Refractive Surgery’ (published by BMJ) and a general ophthalmology textbook ‘Clinical Cases in Ophthalmology’ (published by Butterworth-Heinemann, 1995).
